There is only one way of achieving anything you want, take a step. This is needed now more than ever!

What is the difficulty in quitting? We make a difficult choice instead of an easy one because when we stand still we opt to struggle, rather than achieve success.

Christian D. Larson was a wonderful teacher of the New Thought movement. He preached that the mind is strong, positive thinking is important, and that we ought to match our inner reality to our highest ambitions. Here he describes the kind of mindset required to create a long-term success. He also demonstrates that progress is no finger of fate or chance; it is constructed through developing the appropriate mindset of conviction, courage, and continuing in a forward direction.

Never Give Up—Now or Later

To reach any desired goal, the doing of certain things is necessary. But if those things are not done now, they will still have to be done later. Besides, when we give up in the present, we always make the obstacles in our way much greater than they were before.

The longer we stay in a “giving up” attitude, the harder progress becomes. Why? Because the mind that gives up becomes smaller and smaller. It loses ability, capacity, and power—and becomes less and less competent to deal with life’s challenges. Every time we give up, we fall into a smaller mental state.

You’re Either Moving Forward or Backward

When we stop moving forward, we begin to move backward. Progress slows down only when we stop promoting it. On the other hand, as long as we continue to pursue the ideal, we rise into larger mental states—becoming more capable of turning our dreams into reality.

The belief that we can’t realize our ideals is simply an illusion—produced by fear. It has no basis in truth. Every ideal we discover is something already on our path. If we move forward, we must reach it. How soon we reach it depends only on how steadily we’re moving now.

Clear the Way—Remove the Mental Blocks

Understanding this, we begin to see how fear, doubt, discouragement, and indifference are the true enemies of success. These mental states slow us down—and must be removed completely if we are to reach our goals with power and clarity.

The Power of Positive Conviction

The true attitude for success is one of positive conviction: a firm belief that whatever ideal we hold before us will come true—so long as we move forward. And we can make it happen sooner if we move forward with steadiness, focus, and speed—moment by moment, within the great eternal now.

To move forward now is to begin realizing our ideal now. There is no need to wait. The more we advance in the present, the more fully we embody the ideal—making this very moment full and complete.

Becoming Your Ideal Self

To move forward steadily during the great eternal now is to eternally become more than you are.
And to become more than you are is to become more and more like your ideal.
